Login & Other Known Issues

As with any new system, we encounter some strange problems that seem to have no obviously identifiable cause.

A small number of clients who have subscribed have experienced problems when attempting to log in to Mediaedu. This can be very frustrating and we are committed to solving as many issues as possible.

Below are some of the known issues that people using the site encounter.

Registration & Client Panel Admin

Some clients find it strange that there are two steps in the registration and subscription sequence. This is because Mediaedu has a client management area where you can create the logins you need for your students, pay your subs, print an invoice, etc.

The correct process is explained below.

1. Click on either '
subscribe' or 'click here to a get a free week's trial'. Both links take you to the same place as all accounts now come with a free week for evaluation purposes.

2. Fill in the information requested - your name, email address, desired username and password, etc. as instructed.

3. Look for '
Pick Status' use using the drop-down menu to select either 'Student' or 'Teacher'.

4. If you are a teacher, a new field will appear called '
Number of Class Sets'. If you need one class set which includes access for one teacher and 30 students, enter '1' not 30. When you've completed the form and indicated how you heard about Mediaedu and confirmed that you have read our Terms and Conditions, click on the 'Next >>' button.

5. You should now see '
Mediaedu Subscription : Step 2' informing you that you have successfully created an account. It will say that you get a free week's access to see if you like it or not. To proceed, you need to click on the 'client panel' hyperlink or access the client panel at the end of your trial from the thumbnail on Mediaedu's homepage. It's here that you can pay, print an invoice and create the usernames and passwords you need for your class.

5. If you opted to pay by cheque, read the information carefully and then click on '
Pay Now' if you intend to purchase a subscription.

6. Complete the payment using either PayPal or a Credit Card. Your login details will be emailed to you as a reminder but if you forget them, just get in touch using the information below.

7. If you opted to pay by Cheque, read the information carefully and then click on '
Pay Now' if you intend to purchase a subscription. When we receive a cheque from you for the correct sum, your account will be activated and you will be able to access the site.

Sharing Violation / Booted Out?

In order to fund the developments to Mediaedu, the site employs a registration and access security system to ensure that only those that have purchased a subscription can browse certain areas of the site.

Some clients have experienced problems with the access tracking system, namely that when they attempt to access the site from another computer and internet connection the user is booted out and sent an email notifying them their account has been locked due to a 'sharing violation'.

This means that the software believes that the user concerned has been sharing his or her login details with others. Although, you may receive this automated message, Mediaedu is aware that this can be the result of misdiagnosis and not necessarily anything to do with account sharing. For instance, there is an existing issues with
AOL users having problems as AOL use a cycling dynamic IP address allocation system and this is perceived by our security systems as if you were a series of separate users sharing the same username and password.

This issue is currently being addressed and we would ask you to let us know the following information about the computers you use and the internet connections that service them with web access. This information will allow us to identify any patterns that tend to cause access restrictions.

1. Try Firefox or IE browser (whichever you are not currently using) or both, if they are using a different browser and let us know if you continue to experience the problem.

2. Report the security level setting for the web browser(s) you use at school and at home such as Internet Explorer / AOL. This information can be found in 'preferences' in Firefox and 'Tools - Internet Options' in Internet Explorer. You will need to look in the 'security' and 'privacy' options.

3. Report the status of cookies being accepted in your browser or not. Mediaedu relies on a cookie being accepted in order to identify you as a subscribed user.

4. Report any non-windows generic firewall, antivirus or spyware application that they might be using (incase this application is blocking cookies, some anti-viris/spyware applications will do this if the security settings are too high).

5. Please Inform us of the internet connection type: dial-up modem, broadband ADSL, ISDN, etc.

6. Please let us know how long you can access the site (how many pages you can view) before this issue occurs.

7. Once you have found the information, please ensure that it is emailed to Mediaedu as soon as possible, along with your username / subscription email and password. Mediaedu's programmer will then try to resolve the issue.

If we are unable to find a solution, we will provide a full refund.

No Images?

Very occasionally some clients find that they are unable to view the images on Mediaedu. Instead of the image, 'block_image' may appear.

It is likely that this may be caused by either your browser being unable to identify the image formats in use on the site or that your computer system uses a firewall or security application that may block unknown content.

In this situation we would suggest the following:

1. Check that you have the most up to date version of your Internet broswer.

2. Try a different browser.

3. Temporarily disable your computer's firewall and/or anti-virus software. Remember to enable it afterwards if you are concerned about maintaining security levels.

4. Please inform us of that exact problem you are experiencing as soon as possible so that we can attempt to find a solution.

If we are unable to find a solution, we will provide a full refund.

Layout Anomalies?

Some Internet browsers display text and images in slightly different layouts and character types.

If you notice that part of the text, often on the right hand side of the page is missing or cut off, please inform us of the page's web address and the section on the page where the problem is visible. We will then attempt to correct it.

Mediaedu has been designed to be used with Internet Explorer 7.0 and should display correctly on previous versions. If you are using Firefox, you may see some overlapping and cropping.

If we are unable to find a solution, we will provide a full refund.
